Boston Celtics: Jae Crowder knows the importance of Brad Stevens

The Boston Celtics have the best coach in the NBA, and former Celtic Jae Crowder knows just how important Brad Stevens is to the team’s success.

The head coaching position can sometimes be overlooked. When you have great players on your team it can seem like you could even coach, but it isn’t that easy. The Boston Celtics have had a lot of success recently and one man plays a major role, Brad Stevens.

Now, this isn’t just my opinion. Jae Crowder spoke to the Boston Herald and said that the reason the Celtics have been so successful is because Stevens is the head coach.

"“At the end of the day, Brad Stevens is there,” Crowder said of the Celts coach “And if he’s still there, they can make a lot of stuff happen…All of the young guys got better. Terry (Rozier) and Jaylen (Brown) definitely got better. That’s what it comes down to. And they’ve got pieces. You got Kyrie and you got a lot of different pieces. And you’ve got Brad Stevens, so it works.”"

Anything is possible with Brad Stevens

There is no doubt that Brad Stevens is a major part of the Celtics success. He seems to be a basketball wizard. No matter what cards Stevens is dealt he always comes out on top.

It is pretty amazing that Stevens was able to get this roster to the Eastern Conference Finals. The Celtics were without their two biggest stars and they still almost made it to the NBA finals. Stevens seems to be able to manage any ego, and get all players focused on one goal.

Stevens also seems to be able to get the best out of his players. Isaiah Thomas was a mediocre point guard before he came to the Celtics. Brad Stevens made him into a star. Kyrie Irving wasn’t the best defender when with the Cleveland Cavaliers. In his first season with the C’s Irving played great defense and was also distributing the ball wonderfully.

Just look at Crowder’s numbers

If you want to see how great Brad Stevens is, just look at Jae Crowder’s numbers. In his last season with the Boston Celtics, Crowder averaged 13.9 points and 5.8 rebounds a game. He was an efficient member of the Celtics starting five. In his first year out of Boston, Crowder averaged only 9.7 points and 3.4 rebounds a game. He was a bench player for the Utah Jazz and the Cavs and didn’t really do much.

It’s pretty clear that the Brad Stevens effect is real.

When Stevens decides to call it quits he will be regarded as one of the best coaches in Celtics history. The Celtics are the favorites in the East because they have a great roster and a great head coach.
