J.D. Martinez once again

There are no homeruns to talk about or clutch go-ahead hits, but J.D. Martinez still found a way to anchor the Boston Red Sox attack on Wednesday night.

More from Chowder and Champions

The American League MVP candidate had three hits on the night to raise his batting average to .332.  He also added another RBI to his league leading 98.  A Triple-Crown threat, stardom is looking very good on J.D. Martinez, who continues to find a way to impact the offense in different ways.

To go back to a player like Rafael Devers, what Martinez is doing this season is only impacting the young player and other players in the lineup in a positive way.  They are feeding off of him and that is what a leader is all about.

David Ortiz knows a little about that and he has been watching Martinez a lot.

"“What he’s doing right now, I’m not surprised about what I’m seeing,” Ortiz said during his appearance on WEEI’s “Ordway, Merloni & Fauria” Wednesday morning.  “I noticed that in spring training.  I saw him for about three or four days hitting batting practice every day.  I walked out of that field like I just saw a ghost.  That’s how impressed I was.”"

Martinez is anything but a ghost this season. In fact, he’s more of a demon to opposing pitchers who are having nightmares whenever he steps to the plate.
