It’s never good to lose your star point guard, but Kyrie Irving missing a few games for the Boston Celtics might help the team in the long run.

Kyrie Irving has once again suffered another injury and will be out a few games. Usually, I would freak out but I think this will be good for the Boston Celtics.

I know I sound crazy, but hear me out.

More from Chowder and Champions

The Boston Celtics are coming off two of the ugliest losses we have seen in a long time. The Celtics have given up two double-digit leads in two straight games. That is absolutely unacceptable. Players are starting to get fed up and Brad Stevens needs to figure things out fast.

Kyrie Irving’s injury could actually be a step in the right direction.

The Celtics have been forced to rely on Kyrie Irving a lot this season. At some points, players have just stood around and let Kyrie cook. He leads the team in scoring averaging 23.6 points a game.

Now, this is part of Kyrie’s game. Irving is a great isolation player who can use his impressive handles to score, but maybe they have relied on him too much.

Irving won’t be hot every single night. The most recent LA Lakers game proved that. Kyrie struggled to hit his shots going 6/21 from the field.

With Irving being day-to-day, the Celtics will be forced to perform well without Kyrie. I hope to see guys like Terry Rozier, Jaylen Brown, and Gordon Hayward step up and play to their potential.

Everyone has been asking if the Celtics somehow have too much talent. They tend to play better when one of their stars is out. Maybe this could jumpstart the C’s and get them on a run. Irving’s injury could force Hayward to have to go off or maybe we will see Jaylen put up a quality performance.

Once the Celtics can get in a rhythm they may be unstoppable. Imagine if Gordon Hayward played to his potential? If “starter Terry” and “bench Terry” became the same guy night in and night out.

The key for the Celtics is to play quality team basketball and not be getting into shootouts with opposing teams. When Boston focuses on playing quality defense they win games.

Next. Celtics stand pat at deadline. dark

If Brad Stevens can find just the right minutes for each member of the Boston Celtics to succeed they will become the team that Celtics fans expected. A team that is capable of winning the Eastern Conference and possibly the NBA Finals.
