The New England Patriots love themselves some slot receivers and former UMass Minutemen Andy Isabella seems to have been created in a lab by Bill Belichick.

The New England Patriots have a type. Since 2000 we have seen guys like Troy Brown, Wes Welker and Julian Edelman be very successful in New England’s offense. Andy Isabella looks like he could become the next slot receiver to work wonders for the Patriots.

Isabella is coming of two great years of football. In his senior year he had his best season with 102 catches for 1,698 yards and 13 touchdowns.

The UMass Minutemen has blazing speed and his performances in big games have helped him shoot up the draft board.

At the Senior Bowl, Isabella caught 7 passes for 74 yards. Jon Gruden even slapped a Raiders sticker on his helmet like he was claiming the wideout. Sadly for Gruden that isn’t how the draft works.

Isabella has also drawn some comparisons to a former Patriot. Reggie Wayne described him as a much faster Danny Amendola.

The New England Patriots will definitely need some fresh wide receivers. Even though the team will have a similar player in Braxton Berrios returning to the gridiron, they could possibly lose Phillip Dorsett and Chris Hogan.

So New England could use someone that can get open quickly. When you have an aging quarterback you need to get the ball out as soon as possible.

Isabella is projected to be drafted in the middle rounds so the Patriots will definitely have a chance to take him. He just seems to be a perfect fit in New England.

So the New England Patriots don’t need to look far to find a wideout who could electrify their offense. He has been in Massachusetts all along.

Next. The case for re-signing Josh Gordon. dark

Hopefully we will be seeing Andy Isabella in Gillette Stadium catching passes from Tom Brady when the regular season arrives.
