New England Patriots free agency rumors: Landon Collins is a rare find
By Sam Minton
You don’t normally see such a talented player like Landon Collins make it to free agency so the New England Patriots should jump at the chance and sign the free agent.
This offseason has had some scary moments for New England Patriots fans. A lot of players were contemplating retirement before the Super Bowl and it appeared that the team didn’t have a quality back up plan.
Devin McCourty was one of the players who mentioned that he might consider retiring if the Patriots won. There isn’t a better way to go out, but thankfully McCourty recently announced that he will in fact be coming back for the 2019 season.

Still this has to make you think, what will the team does when he retires? The youngest safety that the team has is Duke Dawson Jr but he didn’t play a snap in 2018. After that the youngest safety is 27 years old.
In the next couple of years we will see McCourty retire and there will have to be a new quarterback of the secondary. There is no better time than the present. So the New England Patriots should start planning for the future.
The New York Giants are turning into the Cleveland Browns. There organization is a complete dumpster fire. They have decided to not give the franchise tag to Pro Bowl safety Landon Collins.
I don’t understand why the Giants wouldn’t bring back Collins. He has been great for the team making 3 Pro Bowl’s and racking up 8 interceptions in 4 seasons.
This is just what the New England Patriots need. Collins is still only 25 years old and definitely has a bright future ahead of him. With a great front seven, Collins would flourish.
The only issue is money. It always is with the New England Patriots. Collins is definitely going to get paid. He will easily get upwards of $12 million per season.
The Patriots have the cap space, but they are notorious for not wanting to break out the checkbook. At the moment New England has $24,304,503 in cap space. They will probably want to get Collins for closer to $10 million.
If the Patriots do go out and spend on Collins I won’t be mad though. New England needs to go out and replace some of their core guys who are near the end of their careers.
So the New England Patriots should at least attempt to sign Landon Collins. If they are able to land him their secondary could be one of the best in the NFL.
