The New England Patriots made Andrew Beck the highest paid undrafted free agent this offseason and it appears that the team has high expectations for the tight end.

The New England Patriots have the ability to find talent in all sorts of places. They turn the trash of the NFL into their own treasure.

Without Rob Gronkowski, the New England Patriots lost one of their greatest offensive weapons. He was truly a unique player. Gronk changed the tight end position forever and it will never be the same.

So the Patriots have their work cut out for them. They need to find someone that can make plays and somewhat replace what Gronkowski was able to do for the offense.

Right now the starting tight end appears to be Austin Seferian-Jenkins. The Patriots signed him to a 1-year deal and after trading Jake Hollister the Patriots tight end corps looks rather weak.

But maybe the Patriots will do what they always do. They will find a player that the rest of the league passed on and make him a star. This year’s find is Andrew Beck.

Beck’s numbers at Texas aren’t that impressive. In his senior season he only had 28 catches for 281 yards and 2 touchdowns. The Longhorns primarily used Beck as a run blocker.

The reason you should pay attention to Beck is because the Patriots are rather invested in him. He is the highest paid undrafted free agent that the team brought in. It would be wasteful for the Patriots to not keep him on the roster.

I think we will see Beck possibly take on a Dwayne Allen type role. Without Rob Gronkowski I expect to see a lot more 2 tight end sets utilized.

Gronk was the best of both worlds. He was a great blocker and a great pass catcher. It is rare to find a tight end who can do both.

Still I think Beck is a player to watch. The Patriots wouldn’t have invested so much money in him if they didn’t believe he could make an impact on the team.

The New England Patriots offense won’t be the same. It’s hard to be as productive when you lose the greatest tight end in the history of the NFL. Still the Patriots did a good job bolstering their offense in the draft and finding undrafted free agents.

Next. Chase Winovich will be a fan favorite. dark

So will Andrew Beck become the next Malcolm Butler, or will he just be someone that Patriots fans forget about like Chad Jackson? I guess we will just have to wait and see.
