Gerald McCoy was told that the Tampa Bay Buccaneers would be releasing him after 9 years with the team. If the New England Patriots could sign him they may have their new Vince Wilfork.

The New England Patriots have made some moves to improve their team, but recent developments should have them breaking out the checkbook once again. New England should be all in on Gerald McCoy.

McCoy is one of the best defensive tackles in the NFL today. He clogs up the line and makes life a living hell for opposing running backs. McCoy also knows how to get to the quarterback.

The defensive tackle also has some accomplishments to brag about. We may take the Pro Bowl for granted here in New England, but making 6 straight Pro Bowl’s as McCoy did was rather impressive.

If the Patriots were able to sign McCoy he would make the defensive a force to be reckoned with. New England already has an impressive front seven. When you add McCoy to the mix they seem almost unstoppable.

The Patriots were able to get to the quarterback a lot last season, but McCoy would have been one of the top pass rushers on the team. Now imagine him paired up with a guy like Michael Bennett.

The Patriots were also to be rumored to be interested in Ndamukong Suh to bolster the defensive line, but he has signed with the Buccaneers. Looks like Tampa Bay has found McCoy’s replacement.

Now McCoy won’t come cheap. One of the main reasons McCoy isn’t returning to the Bucs is because of his expensive contract. He was owed $13 million this season.

If New England is to acquire McCoy it won’t be for that price. They did just give Julian Edelman a new deal. They will have to hope that McCoy wants a Super Bowl and is willing to take a discount.

Still the New England Patriots should do everything they can to sign Gerald McCoy.
