Boston Celtics rumors: Danny Ainge changes narrative on Kyrie Irving
By Sam Minton
It seemed like Kyrie Irving was as good as gone, but Boston Celtics GM Danny Ainge seems to think that isn’t the case.
This offseason has already been a wild one for the Boston Celtics. The big question is will Kyrie Irving stay or will he go?
This question seemed to already be answered. Boston Celtics fans seemed to hate Irving for his antics last season. He proved that he wasn’t ready to be a leader and failed to get the Boston Celtics to the NBA Finals.

It seemed like Irving already had his destination picked out as well. The reports were that Irving was headed to the LA Lakers or to the Brooklyn Nets.
Now things aren’t as certain. Ainge still thinks that Irving could return to the Celtics.
"“I don’t know,” Ainge said of whether Irving was still planning to re-sign. “There’s not much I can say about that, honestly. But there are ongoing conversations. We just have to wait and see what happens there.”"
Later on, Ainge would say that he hasn’t gotten any indication from Kyrie Irving or his camp that the point guard has set his sights on leaving Boston.
I think one of the important things is that there are ongoing conversations between the Celtics and Irving. This makes me believe that a return isn’t that unlikely.
Irving and his camp could have just told the C’s that he isn’t coming back. That doesn’t appear to be the case.
This is an interesting twist to the Kyrie Irving saga. Celtics fans have grown accustomed to the idea that Irving would be gone, but Irving could turn things around.
The 2019-20 season would get a redo. If they were able to improve and make it to the NBA Finals, Boston Celtics fans would forget about the struggles from this season.
Irving is still a great point guard. He is a clutch shooter who is one of the best scorers in the NBA.
The one thing that Irving needs to improve on is being a leader. We saw Irving struggle in this area a lot last season.
If Irving was to stay in Boston I think it would make his job a lot easier. His teammates wouldn’t have to worry about Irving leaving them. He would be committed to the team for the long term.
So we really won’t know what Kyrie Irving is thinking until July 1st. He may just stay in Boston after all.
