Boston Celtics: Team has large mountain to climb
By Sam Minton
The Boston Celtics are heading into the 2019-20 season as one of the top teams in the Eastern Conference, but it looks like they will still have a tall mountain to climb.
The 2018-19 season was definitely a learning experience for Boston Celtics fans. We learned to temper expectations and to not overreact to offseason moves.
Heading into last year you would have thought that the Boston Celtics had guaranteed themselves a spot in the NBA Finals. We then saw that there is a reason that they play the games.

This season expectations aren’t so high. Obviously, the C’s lost some major pieces and the NBA Finals now seem like a faraway dream.
But I think this team may surprise some people. Already the Celtics look like they enjoy playing with one another and that chemistry should help them.
They are going to need all the help they can get according to Five Thirty Eight. The website has the C’s chances of reaching the NBA Finals at 7%.
Now it will be hard to reach the finals, but I think the Celtics have a better chance. If I was putting on my prediction hat I would say 25%.
The Eastern Conference is only getting weaker. No matter what the Celtics are going to be a top 4 team in the conference.
Also, Kemba Walker should be a much better leader than Kyrie Irving. He already appears to be fitting in Boston very well. He’s getting along with teammates which Kyrie failed to do.
This season could also be the year that Jayson Tatum makes the jump. He has the ability to become an All-Star and up his already impressive scoring output.
So the Boston Celtics may surprise some oddsmakers and stat geeks this upcoming season. The loss of Kyrie Irving may just be the move that sparks the team to greatness.
