Torey Krug seems to be under appreciated here in Boston, but the defensemen received some words of encouragement from Boston Bruins president Cam Neely.

It’s always good to have your boss tell you that you are doing a good job. Even professional athletes aren’t immune to this joy. So I bet Torey Krug is a happy camper right now after hearing what Boston Bruins president Cam Neely had to say about him.

Krug was a beast for the Bruins during the 2018-19 season. He was someone that could constantly be relied upon to make an impact.

More from Chowder and Champions

Last season was Krug’s 3rd straight with 50 points. he also tallied a career high  47 assists.

A lot of Krug’s offensive output is due to his great ability on the power play. He runs point on the blue line and is one of the best in the NHL.

There is no doubt that Krug excels more in the offensive zone. His short stature makes it hard for him as a defenseman but he has done quite well. He is a career +27.

Now hockey is a team sport so a single player can’t get all the credit, but Neely believes that one of the major reasons that the Bruins have been successful in recent years is because of the play of Torey Krug.

"“With Torey he’s one of the top PP defensemen in the league and our power play has been pretty damn good, and has won a lot of games for us. Grzelcyk is coming along, but I don’t know if he sees the ice the way that Torey does. And Charlie just hasn’t shown that he’s a No. 1 power play defenseman just yet. Maybe some of that is just opportunity that hasn’t been there yet because of the way Torey handles the first unit. Torey has been a big part of our success the past few years.”"

As we move closer and closer to a post-Zdeno Chara world, Krug looks to be your guy. He has proven all along that he is worthy of being a top-pairing defensemen.

That is why I hope the Bruins and Krug are able to work out a deal. Krug has stated that he loves being in Boston, but he is going to come at a high price. Hopefully the team won’t be trigger happy and try to move him at the trade deadline.

Patrice Bergeron is top 5 center. dark. Next

But it is clear that the Boston Bruins higher ups love Torey Krug and hope he will be with the team for many more years.
