Boston Celtics: Vincent Poirier just what team needs
By Sam Minton
The Boston Celtics acquired a relatively unknown center in Vincent Poirier this offseason, but the Frenchman is receiving some high praise from some NBA players.
Now there were two signings that Boston Celtics fans were focused on in the offseason. All we cared about was Kemba Walker and Enes Kanter, but Boston made another interesting signing this offseason.
Lately we have seen the Celtics make a lot of international signing acquisitions. They drafted Guerschon Yabusele, signed Daniel Theis, and this offseason Boston signed center Vincent Poirier.

This will be Poirier’s first season in the NBA. He has bounced around Europe with his most recent stint being in Spain. In his best season he averaged close to 12 points a game with 8 rebounds.
Now Team USA struggled at the FIBA World Cup, but France had quite the run. They even beat the United States.
Poirier was a rebounding machine for France. In their final game of the tournament he led the team with 7 rebounds.
Now as you can probably guess Poirier isn’t scoring left and right but that’s not what the Celtics need. They need someone who can bully guys in the paint. Poirier’s teammate Nicolas Batum thinks that Boston grabbed quite the player.
"“This guy, I think, just started basketball 5 years ago, so he’s had a special career,” Batum told John Schumann. “His energy was great. We can’t count on Rudy (Gobert) every game… He was huge. He wasn’t scared by Bogut & Baynes… He was amazing tonight.”“It’s clear that he’s a center that can block shots and control the paint,” Batum said. “He’s a terrific roller, can really catch a lob, and obviously has a lot of energy. It’s a good pick-up for Boston, for sure.”"
With the departure of Aron Baynes, the Celtics need a guy like Poirier. Someone who can do the dirty work in the paint. It will be interesting to see how many minutes he will play, but he is definitely a quality depth player.
Imagine Poirier working alongside Robert Williams? Nobody will be able to do anything in the paint.
It will be interesting to see if Poirier has success in his first season. If he did it may lead to the Celtics continued investment in international players.
Poirier won’t be flashy, but I think he will be a decent player for the Boston Celtics this season.
