Some Boston Bruins fans want Adam McQuaid to make a return to the team but that will do nothing to help Boston turn things around.

There will always be a soft spot for Adam McQuaid in Boston. He exemplified what it meant to be a member of the Boston Bruins.

McQuaid was a gentle giant who could be talking to a fan off the ice and then on the ice punch an opposing player into next year.

More from Chowder and Champions

Boston has been missing McQuaid’s style of play. They need a bruiser to protect star guys like Brad Marchand and David Pastrnak. With Kevan Miller out the Bruins are running out of players they can afford to let fight and sit in the penalty box.

This has led to some fans wanting McQuaid to make a return to the team, but even though McQuaid is beloved so much by the fans he shouldn’t make a return to Boston.

McQuaid hasn’t played in a game all season. He has been skating with the Bruins on an unofficial capacity, but hasn’t garnered any interest from NHL teams.

At the age of 33, McQuaid can’t help the team. He has a long injury history and you don’t tend to get stronger with age. You also have to question if McQuaid will even be able to keep up with forwards when he is on the ice.

Honestly the best move for McQuaid might be retiring. He was able to win a Stanley Cup already and needs to start thinking about life after hockey.

The Bruins need to find a top winger to help out David Krejci. The 2nd line needs to start playing better. If they don’t this season will end just like last year.

dark. Next. Don’t freak out over Ilya Kovalchuk

So let’s stop trying to bring back players that we like and go after players that will help the team. Sadly that won’t be someone like Adam McQuaid.
