The Boston Celtics very own Jaylen Brown is becoming an innovator and revolutionist right before our eyes.

It’s becoming more evident throughout Jaylen Brown’s NBA career that he wants to make a positive change to the world far beyond the realm of sports. Little did the Boston Celtics know they would be selecting one of the most athletic and intelligent players in the NBA Draft back in 2016.

The wise mindset of Jaylen Brown started when he was in college. It was very rare to see a young 20-year-old out of Cal declare for the NBA Draft by representing himself and not hiring an agent. After meeting with a few agencies, Brown decided it wasn’t necessary or him.

"“When I first went through the process of looking for an agent, I met with 5-10 agents. A lot of them were incorporating services that I didn’t need. I can dress myself, I don’t need you to buy me a car, I don’t need you to take me to meet Kim Kardashian, I don’t need any of that. Just handle what I need you to handle and I’ll pay you for that.”"

Brown has handled mostly all of his negotiating and business endeavors on his own, including the first part of his rookie contract extension negotiations before the start 2019 season. But he did hire an agent to help him negotiate with the Boston Celtics while he was playing for Team USA over the summer.

The other part of being a professional athlete who makes millions of dollars is obtaining a financial adviser to handle your money and finances. Jaylen prefers for his agent and financial advisers to not know each other.

Adrian Wojnarowski explains how being a top draft selection essentially comes with a “fixed” salary and Jaylen expressed his point of view on it.

As previously mentioned, Jaylen Brown’s overall objective is to positively change the world one day through technology and education. He’s a huge advocate in self-identity and social equality. Brown wants underprivileged students to have the same opportunities and resources as other students.

To do so, Jaylen Brown was granted an MIT Media Lab Fellowship which allows him to select ten children from Boston’s underprivileged communities and provide them with MIT resources and tools.

The impressive part behind all of Jaylen’s personal or business endeavors is that he did it all on his own. He didn’t have agents or “people” talk for him, everything he’s accomplished has been solely on his own and it’s made Jaylen learn more about himself as a person.

"“I learned so much by not having an agent and it was good for me. Everything I’ve built with my brand on the court or off the court, the stuff you see at Harvard, the education stuff, the fashion, MIT and the kids, I did that pretty much with my own two hands. It has allowed me to have my own relationships and not an agents. Like I can call the media lab at MIT, I can call the director of education at Harvard, it’s allowed me to have those relationships rather than a third party.” – Jaylen Brown, per ‘Woj Pod’."

Jaylen Brown is the living proof of how an athlete can be an innovator and revolutionist by using his platform to change the world one step at a time. Brown makes being a fan of the Boston Celtics exciting on and off the court.
