Even though the New England Patriots are without a lot of key players, they will make the playoffs in 2020.

There seems to be a lot of doom and gloom when it comes to the New England Patriots next season. They lost a lot of players in free agency including Tom Brady.

It is obvious that the New England Patriots are going to take a step back. They aren’t guaranteed to make the Super Bowl like they have in past years.

But I think the NFL might have done the team a favor. One that will ensure that the Patriots find their way into the playoffs.

The NFL playoffs just got larger. In these times of no sports that sounds amazing. Now there are two extra wild card spots meaning that 7 teams per conference will have a chance to win the Super Bowl.

This is major news for NFL fans but most importantly Patriots fans. I think this ensures that New England won’t miss the playoffs next season.

There is a chance that New England fails to win the AFC East. The offense needs some work and the defense did lose some key players.

But the defense will still have guys like Stephon Gilmore, Devin McCourty, and Dont’a Hightower. On offense, the line is looking strong with David Andrews and Joe Thuney returning. Also, Jarrett Stidham is receiving a ton of hype, and Cam Newton might end up in a Patriots uniform.

There is also the Bill Belichick factor. He is going to have a giant chip on his shoulder and will be extremely motivated. He will want to prove that he doesn’t need Tom Brady.

I don’t think the Patriots will be going 5-11 or 6-10. They might not be lighting up the scoreboard but I can’t imagine they will be worse than 8-8. Belichick will come up with a gameplan that is perfect for Stidham. Also, the defense will probably ensure that they will win a few games that they might not deserve to.

Don’t expect the Patriots to tank and be at the bottom of the NFL. It is very possible that the team wins the AFC East or sneaks into that last wild card spot.

Once you are in the playoffs anything is possible. Who would have thought that the Titans and Ryan Tannehill would have defeated the Patriots last season?

So don’t count out the Patriots. They might surprise some people next season.
