MLB owners have come up with a plan for the 2020 season and it might actually help the Boston Red Sox.

Things weren’t looking good for the Boston Red Sox. After trading away Mookie Betts and losing Chris Sale to injury things looked pretty bleak. Now there is a reason to be excited.

On Monday, MLB and the owners agreed on a plan to restart the season. This includes a shortened season with around 82 games being played, a universal DH, and an expanded postseason. The main thing that Red Sox fans will want to pay attention to is the last part.

The playoffs would be expanded to 14 teams. That’s a pretty decent jump from 10 teams. If this was to happen I think the Red Sox can sneak into the postseason.

Even though the Sox lost Betts and Sale they still have some firepower. At the plate, Andrew Benintendi, J.D. Martinez, Rafael Devers, and Xander Bogaerts will be leading the way. These guys are some quality hitters and Martinez and Devers love to hit balls out of the park.

Pitching is a bit of a different story. The Red Sox are going to have to rely on Eduardo Rodriguez and Nathan Eovaldi. E-Rod should be fine but I’m not so sure about Eovaldi.

It is going to be tough for the Red Sox to be at the top of the Al East. The Yankees and Rays are leading the race for the division title. Now even if the Red Sox were in 3rd place in the division they might sneak into the playoffs.

Now let’s not act like they will have a great chance to win it all (they won’t). But the main challenge is making it into the postseason. Once you are in anything can happen. The 2004 Boston Red Sox proved that.

Jon Lester should retire a Red Sox. dark. Next

So a shortened season might help the Boston Red Sox. The question is will the players agree to the plan (probably not)?
