It seemed like Bill Belichick’s life revolved around football but now we are seeing that there is more to the New England Patriots head coach.

When you think of Bill Belichick what comes to mind? You think of his desire to be the best and win no matter the costs. The New England Patriots head coach seems to live and breathe football.

Belichick puts in long hours at the Patriots facility and has been coaching longer than I have even been alive. There is no doubt that he will be enshrined in the Pro Football Hall of Fame whenever he decides to stop coaching.

More from Chowder and Champions

Football seems to be Belichick’s life. The one thing that he cares about with all his heart.

Now that doesn’t seem to be the case. Belichick realizes that football shouldn’t be the only thing that matters.

Protests are occurring in all 50 states and across the world after the murder of George Floyd by a police officer while 3 others watched in Minnesota.

We have seen countless players demand change with players like Stephon Gilmore, Devin McCourty, and Jason McCourty being some of the most outspoken players on New England’s roster.

Gilmore even appeared in a video that was made by some of the NFL’s biggest stars and demanded that Roger Goodell and the league be more outspoken on racial inequality and police brutality. The video seemed to work as Goodell released a video on Friday doing exactly what the players told him to do.

With players and even owner Robert Kraft being an active supporter of the Black Lives Matter movement. it’s not a surprise to hear that football has been put on the backburner for now.

We’ve all known that Belichick was a great leader. The Patriots wouldn’t have those Super Bowl Banners hanging up at Gillette Stadium without him.

Still, its a bit of a pleasant surprise that Belichick had the awareness that now is not the time to talk X’s and O’s. He let players speak and tell their stories and educate their teammates. Now is the time for a lot of us to listen and it seems Belichick got the message.

Now that Tom Brady is gone, Belichick will need to cultivate a strong locker room, If he doesn’t and loses the room the Patriots could struggle mightily.

Next. Punt returner for 2020 uncertain. dark

There will be a time where we can get back to focusing on football but right now it is time to focus on change.
