Boston Celtics: Why team will make Disney their Magic Kingdom
NBA Insider Brian Scalabrine believes the Boston Celtics have what it takes to write a storybook ending down in Disney.
With the NBA reportedly set to resume in Disney World on July 31, it’s time to start thinking and talking basketball again. And for Boston Celtics fans, it’s time to start exploring their team’s chances to come out of the Eastern Conference and battle for a championship.
As Disney is a place where magic happens, the have a roster capable of making some noise. The emergence of both Jayson Tatum and Jaylen Brown, along with the health of Kemba Walker and Gordon Hayward gives the Celtics probably the top starting five amongst all teams invited when you add the solid play of Daniel Theis representing the center position.
Still, there are some hole that could be exploited playing against the league’s best. But former Boston Celtics forward, and current NBA Insider Brian Scalabrine likes the Celtics chances and explains why during an appearance on Ordway, Merloni & Fauria on Monday.

"“I do like the Celtics to come out of the East,” he said, via WEEI. “I will tell you for a few reasons why. I think Brad (Stevens) is going to be remarkable in this environment. Think about it, a free throw happens, he can call his team over and get a really quick 15-second timeout to get guys on track. Remember, I am in a lot of the huddles, especially at home. He doesn’t say much and he gets guys going in the right direction really quickly.”"
The coaching advantage the Boston Celtics will have over must teams will show because of the fact there will be no crowds. With every team playing at a neutral site, it won’t be as tough for Brad Stevens to make the adjustments as it would if he was at home.
But, as we know, coaching along doesn’t get it done in the NBA, especially when the other team has the best players in the league.
Joel Embiid, Giannis Antetokounmpo, and then perhaps LeBron James or Kawhi Leonard?
That sounds like a tall task for a Celtics team with no dominant big man to protect the rim. That is exactly why any run at a championship would be a storybook ending for the team in green.
The Boston Celtics have their own star in Jayson Tatum
With the emergence of Jayson Tatum as a legit All-Star, the Celtics have their own best player on the court.
Yes, he is just in his third season, but Scalabrine, like fellow NBA insider Jalen Rose, likes what he has around him as a reason Boston can overcome the Greek Freak and Mr. Embiid.
"“And I like what Jayson Tatum has become,” He continued. “Kemba Walker has never in his life been a second option. And that second option can go out there and give you 40. Jaylen Brown is ascending into a big-time two-way player. Jayson Tatum is for sure a top-10 player in the league. The only question is Daniel Theis, (Enes) Kanter, can those guys hold down the fort at that position against like an (Joel) Embiid over the course of a seven-game series, or Giannis (Antetounmpo). That is the hole in the Celtics.”"
That hole can be covered up by four players who can create their own shot.
Again, a very healthy Gordon Hayward and a rested Kemba Walker alone will make the Boston Celtics a dangerous team. But it really starts and ends with Jayson Tatum.
With the way he played prior to the NBA going on hiatus, particularly in games against Kawhi and LeBron James, who is to doubt that the emerging young star won’t make Disney World his magic kingdom.
In other words, don’t look past the Boston Celtics.
