Isaiah Wynn finally made it onto the field and his role for the New England Patriots will be even more important in 2020.

We all know how important the left tackle is in football. They have the job of protecting a quarterback’s blindside. Isaiah Wynn is tasked with that job for the New England Patriots.

Wynn has had a difficult NFL career so far. He has dealt with health issues that have led to him only appear in 8 games these past two seasons. This is the first season we can expect Wynn to get his true amount of playing time.

Now blocking Tom Brady’s blindside is an important job. Getting the greatest quarterback of all time injured isn’t the best for an offensive linemen’s resume.

But this season Wynn’s role will be even more important than it was in 2019. Wynn is tasked with protecting Jarrett Stidham.

Stidham does have some abilities that will help out his offensive line. He has gotten to study under Tom Brady and he is also much faster.  If the pocket collapses Stidham can abandon ship and pick up some yards on the ground.

But looking at the big picture he will be much harder to protect. Stidham will require much more time to get the ball out. Brady had an impressive knack to get the ball out insanely fast.

Also, Brady has great pocket presence. At times it seemed like he had eyes in the back of his head. Stidham has to prove that he has a similar skill, but if I had to guess this means a lot more work for the offensive line.

Wynn and the rest of the offensive line will have to hold their blocks longer as it might take a while for Stidham to progress through his reads. If Wynn fails, Stidham could get crushed by some blindside hits.

So Wynn has a very important job. Hopefully, he is up for the challenge.
