New England Patriots: Cam Newton will be starter in 2020
By Sam Minton
There were questions about who would start for the New England Patriots in 2020, but Cam Newton seems to be the clear choice.
Whoever starts for the New England Patriots in 2020 has a tough job. They have to be the guy that replaces Tom Brady. It looks like Cam Newton is up for the challenge.
Brady was a foundational part of the organization for two decades. He led them to Super Bowl’s and made the team a dynasty.

Now that Brady is in Tampa Bay they are tasked with replacing him. A job that is difficult to say the least.
Immediately after Brady left, the job appeared to be Jarrett Stidham’s. New England wasn’t active in the free agent market even though there were some great quarterbacks still available.
But then the Patriots shocked the world. They signed Cam Newton and Patriots fans everywhere rejoiced.
Cam is such a talented quarterback. He can run the ball for a first down and also has quite the arm.
Unlike Stidham, Newton has experience. He even helped the Carolina Panthers reach the Super Bowl. Sadly Carolina was bested by an ancient Peyton Manning and the Denver Broncos.
Still, some wondered if Newton would win the starting job. Stidham might not have regular season experience but he is knowledgable when it comes to the Patriots offense. He got a year headstart on Newton and got to learn about the game from Brady.
So far in Training Camp, Stidham hasn’t done himself any favors. This week he has thrown seven interceptions. That’s almost two picks a practice. If Stidham is doing that as the starting quarterback, the fans will be all over him.
Also, it was interesting to see Stidham see a reduced amount of reps on Thursday. New England might be showing their hand that Newton is the starter.
Besides Newton showing off his arm strength with some deep balls, he has been much smarter with the ball. Also, we have seen Newton utilize his feet and rollout when passing. It looks like New England will be utilizing Newton’s speed when designing plays.
It’s been clear so far in camp that Newton is the more talented QB and that he deserves the starting job. Unlike with Stidham, you are confident that Newton is able to lead you to the promised land. It’s unlikely, but I wouldn’t be too shocked if somehow New England ended up making a run in the playoffs.
So even though Training Camp just underway, the Patriots should have a good idea of who the starter is. Cam Newton should clearly be the man on top of the depth chart.
