New England Patriots: Something is wrong with Julian Edelman
By Sam Minton
Julian Edelman has struggled so far this season and it’s time for New England Patriots fans to start worrying.
It was expected that Julian Edelman would have a major impact on the 2020 season for the New England Patriots. So far that hasn’t been the case. The only time Edelman has made an impact, it has been helping the other team.
Now to Edelman’s credit he has been able to put together some decent numbers. So far this season Edelman has 18 catches for 294 yards. This includes his game in Seattle where he had eight catches for 179 yards.

So why is there something wrong with Edelman? It’s simple.
He can not stop dropping the ball.
This was most evident on Monday when a ball went through Edelman’s hands and was intercepted by Tyrann Mathieu who took it all the way to the end zone. Edelman gave the Chiefs all of the momentum.
Sadly this isn’t a one-time thing. Since the start of last season, Edelman has dropped 11 passes. That might not seem bad but in that same time period, no other NFL player has dropped eight.
Edelman has just appeared off this entire season. He has taken a lot of big hits in his career, so you hope there aren’t any serious head issues occurring.
New England needs Edelman to start playing better. He was supposed to be the player that the Patriots could rely on when it comes to the passing game.
If Edelman doesn’t start playing better things could get bad. He already isn’t on the field as much as he used to be. His Patriots career could be nearing an end if he continues to struggle. N’Keal Harry and Damiere Byrd have had a quality start to the 2020 season.
Byrd had arguably the best game of his season on Monday night. He had five catches for 80 yards on Monday.
Harry was also impressive even though the numbers might not reflect so. He only had three catches for 21 yards and a touchdown, but that TD catch really stood out.
In his rookie season, the Patriots failed to use Harry’s height and athleticism to their advantage. Harry should be one of the team’s first options when they are close to the end zone.
Harry showed why on Monday night when he was able to make a great catch for his first touchdown of the season.
Bill Belichick is known for not holding on to players for too long. He let Lawyer Milloy walk. He let Tom Brady walk. There is no doubt that he’s not afraid to move on from Edelman.
So far in 2020 one thing is obvious, something is wrong with Julian Edelman.
