Patriots 2021 NFL Draft rumors: Justin Fields would be dream come true for fans

Ahead of the 2021 NFL Draft there is only one thing that New England Patriots fans can think about. Who will they draft in the first round?

It seems like the Patriots have to draft a quarterback in 2021. The team might have signed Cam Newton to another one-year deal, but they need to do more.

Newton is a stop-gap at best. He will do for 2021, but New England still needs their quarterback of the future.

The Patriots have constantly been linked to QB’s such as Trey Lance or Mac Jones. With Bill Belichick’s ties to Alabama, it would be more shocking if New England passed on Jones than if they ended up drafting him.

But a new challenger has emerged in recent weeks. Justin Fields is the most recent quarterback that New England could end up selecting.

Fields had an amazing career at Ohio State. He racked up more than 5,000 yards and 63 touchdowns while only throwing nine interceptions. Those numbers likely have Patriots fans salivating.

Justin Fields would be dream come true for New England Patriots fans.

Fields is one of the best quarterbacks in the entire draft. He has the chance to be a franchise altering player.

There is nothing that Fields is incapable of doing. He has an amazing arm that can make some impressive throws.

But Fields is also capable of running the ball as well. Whether it be a designed run or just escaping pressure in the pocket, Fields is more than capable of gaining yards on the ground.

If Fields was drafted by the Patriots it would also be a perfect situation for the organization. Fields grew up admiring Newton and Cam is the reason that he wears No.1. The Ohio State QB even attended one of Newton’s 7 on 7 camps.

While Newton likely wants to start, Fields seems like the only guy that he would be okay losing the starting job to. It would be an amazing story for the two quarterbacks.

The only problem for the Patriots is the cost to move up in the draft. New England would have to likely move up to the top five if they want to snag Fields. That would mean giving up a bevy of picks along with a player like N’Keal Harry or more likely Stephon Gilmore. Will New England want to give up so much?

The Patriots have been aggressive so far this offseason. If this was a previous offseason it would be difficult to see New England moving up. Maybe now they will actually pull the trigger. The NFL Network’s Bucky Brooks believes they will actually make the move.

If New England lands Fields fans should be ecstatic. The 2021 season could be filled with much more excitement and hopefully more wins.
