There is no doubt that the best move of the 2021 NHL trade deadline was the Boston Bruins acquiring Taylor Hall. At this point, Boston should start considering keeping him for the foreseeable future.

Hall was struggling this season for the Buffalo Sabres. He was only able to tally two goals in 37 games.

More from Chowder and Champions

Honestly, it’s hard to blame Hall. Buffalo seems to be the place where player’s careers go to die. It is the equivalent of hockey Siberia.

When Hall was traded to Boston it was a chance for him to revitalize his career. So far it’s safe to say that Hall has enjoyed being a Bruin.

In just nine games, Hall has four goals and three assists. He has been a key part of Boston’s second line and was just what the B’s needed.

It will be interesting to see just how far Hall can take the Bruins. Whenever Boston’s season does come to an end, Hall will become a free agent.

But should Boston let that happen?

Why the Boston Bruins should re-sign Taylor Hall

At this point, it seems like a no-brainer. The Boston Bruins have to re-sign the winger.

Hall has electrified Boston’s offense. He has great speed and skill on the puck. The winger showed that when he dangled through Sidney Crosby to score against the Penguins on Tuesday.

Overall Hall has made the second line much better. Ever since he arrived, David Krejci and Craig Smith have been on another level.

Now outside of Hall, the Bruins still have some tough decisions to make. Krejci could also be a free agent at the end of the season.

But no matter if Krejci leaves Boston or not, they need to re-sign Hall. If Krejci stays, Hall is the winger that he has been looking for. If the Bruins can sign Krejci to a team-friendly deal, why not bring him back?

But let’s just say that Krejci wants a payday and ends up leaving Boston, Hall would still be a valuable asset. We have seen Charlie Coyle struggle and one has to imagine that Hall would make him a much better player.

With Coyle signed to a major deal, he is the likely replacement for Krejci. Pairing Coyle with Hall and Smith would ensure that the transition is rather seamless.

The Bruins are going to have plenty of cap space. With how well Jeremy Swayman has been playing, Boston might even consider moving on from Tuukka Rask. With Krejci and Rask’s contracts potentially off the books, the Bruins could have a lot of money to spend.

At the age of 29, Hall still has plenty of hockey left to play. If he wants to win a championship, Hall should stay in Boston. The Bruins will likely be able to use that as a way to get Hall to take a lesser deal.

But no matter the cost, the Boston Bruins should re-sign Taylor Hall and ensure that they can compete for a Stanley Cup for years to come.
