Boston Red Sox World Series 2018: Steve Pearce shocked MLB
By Sam Minton
The Boston Red Sox are your 2018 World Series champions. That may not be the most shocking turn of events, but the World Series MVP shocked the world.
When you think of guys who would be 2018 World Series MVP you think of guys like J.D. Martinez, Mookie Betts, and Chris Sale. Even though these guys were the Boston Red Sox stars in the regular season they didn’t win the World Series MVP, Steve Pearce did.
Pearce was acquired from the Toronto Blue Jays in the middle of the regular season. No one could have imagined that he would play a major role in the Sox’s World Series run.
In the regular season, he batted .279 and had 7 home runs and 26 RBIs. Pearce was looked at as a guy to add some depth to the Red Sox roster in case of injury.

But in the World Series, Pearce was an animal. He batted .333 and had 3 home runs 8 RBIs and 4 walks. Pearce was amazing at the plate and had a great eye. When the Los Angeles Dodgers left a ball over the plate, he didn’t let the opportunity go to waste.
To paint a picture of just how unlikely of a hero Pearce was let’s go to Las Vegas. Prior to Game 5 the World Series, Pearce’s odds of winning World Series MVP was at +2200. If you put a few dollars on Pearce you are looking pretty nice right now.
Pearce’s run in the World Series was a historic one. His 8 RBI’s in the World Series is 2nd only to Dwight Evans in Red Sox’s history.
It will be interesting to see what the Red Sox do in the offseason. Pearce doesn’t have a deal signed for next season. It would be hard to imagine the Red Sox’s getting rid of a World Series MVP, but they have a stacked roster.
But let’s not worry about that. Steve Pearce dominated the World Series and the Boston Red Sox are your World Series champions. What more could you ask for?
