Charlie McAvoy has been criticized a lot lately, but Boston Bruins head coach Bruce Cassidy has the young defender’s back.

Boston Bruins defensemen Charlie McAvoy hasn’t had a fun 2018-19 season. He has had to deal with a bunch of injuries and is getting criticized for what he does off the ice as well.

Multiple reports stated that McAvoy had issues with tardiness and has had to be set straight by some of the veterans on the roster.

This is troubling because we have seen how these issues have played out in the past. I am hoping that McAvoy doesn’t get the Tyler Seguin treatment.

Well, it looks like these issues aren’t that big of a deal. Bruce Cassidy stuck up for the young defensemen in the media on Tuesday.

"“I don’t know if he’s ever been late to our stuff,” said Cassidy. “I asked (Zdeno Chara) about that. Sometimes they have organized workouts on the road if we have a day off, so maybe he came in late to one of those…. I don’t know of Charlie ever being late on my watch here.”"

If Bruce Cassidy doesn’t have an issue with it, I am not going to get angry. We already freaked out over Boston Celtics rookie Robert Williams having issues being late, and what is he doing now? He is dunking all over the NBA.

The most important thing for McAvoy is getting healthy. When he is on the ice he is one of the Bruins best defensemen. McAvoy can light players up and light the lamp as well.

New expectations

McAvoy was looking for a major payday as he becomes a restricted free agent at the end of the season. I don’t know if I am willing to give him a humongous deal. McAvoy is going to have to prove that he can stay on the ice and is worth the investment.

I think once McAvoy gets back with the team he will prove why he is such an amazing player. Hopefully, he will go on a scoring outburst and win Boston Bruins fans back.

It has been a long season for Charlie McAvoy, but he is hoping his 2nd half will be much better than the 1st.
