New England Patriots: A star was born in Super Bowl LIII
By Sam Minton
After his performance in Super Bowl LIII, there is no doubting that New England Patriots running back Sony Michel is on his way to being one of the best running backs in the NFL.
Sony Michel had to deal with a lot of obstacles in his rookie season. He re-aggravated his knee and struggled early on in the regular season. Super Bowl LIII was the perfect conclusion to Michel’s rookie season with the New England Patriots.
I love watching Sony Michel run the ball. He has some amazing speed and vision but can also truck a player into the earth’s core with how strong he is.

Fans and the media went after Michel due to his rough start to his career and declared him a bust (looking at you Tony Massarotti). Then all of a sudden Michel flipped the switch.
Michel ended up having a great rookie season. In 13 games played he had 209 carries for 931 yards and 6 touchdowns.
That would be a great season even if Michel struggled in the postseason, but that wasn’t the case. Michel was even better in the playoffs.
Michel handled his first Super Bowl run like a champ. In 3 games he had 71 carries for 336 yards and 6 touchdowns. That is an amazing stretch of games for any running back. When you factor in that Michel is a rookie, it is spectacular.
Michel had a historically great postseason. He is the first rookie to run for 6 touchdowns. Michel is now among the likes of Emmitt Smith and Larry Csonka. That’s some pretty stellar company.
So there is no debating that the New England Patriots made the right pick by drafting Sony Michel in the first round. Michel was one of the driving forces behind the New England Patriots offense. We may be watching the birth of one of the best running backs in the NFL today.
