Rob Gronkowski announced his retirement on Sunday and even though New England Patriots fans will miss him, it is the right decision.

We all should have seen this coming, but that doesn’t mean that the news doesn’t come as a shock. Rob Gronkowski has played his last game as a member of the New England Patriots.

The news broke on Instagram where Gronk announced that he was retiring. The beautiful message will have all Patriots fans in their feelings.

More from Chowder and Champions

There is no doubt in my mind that we watched the greatest tight end in NFL history. Rob Gronkowski changed the tight end position forever. The New England Patriots and the NFL will never be the same.

Due to his size, Gronkowski was able to make plays that other tight ends could only dream of. Some catches that he made were absolutely unbelievable.

Gronkowski retires with some amazing stats. In 9 seasons he had 521 catches, 7,861 yards, and 79 touchdowns.

You can’t tell the story of the NFL and the New England Patriots without Rob Gronkowski. There will be an entire chapter dedicated to him. The amount of records that Gronk holds is preposterous.

Now even though this loss stings, Gronkowski is making the right decision. This past season he took a major step back. The dominant Gronk that we knew and love disappeared for most of the season.

Gronkowski has also dealt with injuries his entire life. Even in college he was injury prone. The injuries that Gronk suffered weren’t fun either. His back problems were as severe as it gets.

In the Super Bowl, Gronkowski was back to his old self. He made an amazing diving catch to secure the New England Patriots 6th Super Bowl. That’s a pretty great way to end your career.

Now Gronkowski will rest up and focus on his post NFL career. Maybe he will finally become a movie star or a wrestler? There is definitely plenty of opportunities for Gronkowski now that he is done with football.

The New England Patriots offense now has a giant hole. There are basically no pass catching weapons beside Julian Edelman. The No.1 tight end on the depth chart is Jacob Hollister or Matt LaCosse. Not exactly the best of situations.

But let’s all remember the good times that Rob Gronkowski gave us. He was an absolute legend who dominated the NFL. He is without a doubt a first ballot hall of famer. If he isn’t voted in, it would be an absolute travesty.

Josh Rosen would strive under Bill Belichick. dark. Next

Thank you Rob Gronkowski.
