The NHL released their list of top 20 defensemen and it was surprising to see who from the Boston Bruins made the list.

The Boston Bruins have had a solid group of defensemen for the last few years. We have seen young players turn into full-on stars.

There are two defensemen that have established themselves as the most talented on the Bruins roster. Charlie McAvoy and Torey Krug have proven that they are the future of the Boston Bruins defense.

More from Chowder and Champions

Now both of these guys had solid seasons in 2018-19. McAvoy had 7 goals and 21 assists in his second NHL season while Krug had 6 goals and 47 assists.

The NHL released there top 20 defensemen and where McAvoy and Krug were ranked was quite surprising. McAvoy cracked the list at 14th while Krug was 16th.

This is quite disrespectful to both players. They are definitely top 15 defensemen, but at least one of these guys belongs in the top 10.

I honestly was surprised to see McAvoy ranked higher than Krug. McAvoy is constantly injured and isn’t as skilled on offense.

Krug on the other hand continues to improve and is insane in the offensive zone. He may not be amazing in his own zone, but his offensive skill makes up for that.

McAvoy is also a bit unproven due to his injury history. I would rather commit money long term to Torey Krug who has proven he is capable of being a top defensemen.

Right now it is clear that Krug is the better player and deserves to be in the top 10. I would have Krug ranked 8th according to the NHL’s list. His skill is far superior to Roman Josi, Kris Letang, and Drew Doughty.

Next. Patrice Bergeron is top 5 center. dark

Maybe this season Charlie McAvoy will prove me wrong but it seems clear that Torey Krug is the better player.
