New England Patriots rumors: O.J. Howard could fix tight end problems
By Sam Minton
The New England Patriots have had their issues at tight end but if they could acquire O.J. Howard that could change.
We all knew that the New England Patriots were going to struggle at tight end this season. How could they replace Rob Gronkowski? The man was the best tight end to ever play the game.
The lack of production at tight end has effected the entire offense. The running game is struggling and Tom Brady doesn’t have as many targets as he is used to.

So far Ryan Izzo is your most productive tight end so far and he only has 6 catches for 114 yards and a touchdown. Gronkowski could put that up in a single week if not a single half.
The Patriots need help at tight end and one guy who could help them out is O.J. Howard. Howard was a 2017 1st round pick who played his college ball at Alabama.
It seems like Howard has been underutilized down in Tampa Bay. If he came to New England he could be a major part of the offense.
Standing at 6’6″, Howard would be a perfect red zone target for Tom Brady. He is also quite athletic so he would add some depth to the passing game.
Now according to reports the Bucs have stated that Howard is unavailable. I’m not exactly buying that. If Tom Brady’s name can be thrown around so can Howard’s.
I think the Patriots need to sweeten the pot. Make an offer that The Buccaneers would really have to think about. Tom Brady needs reliable weapons. All he has right now is Julian Edelman.
So the Patriots need to make a move. This season they might be fine, but what about 2020? For a team that is always one step ahead, they seem to have no plan for the future.
If the team acquired Howard he could be a star for years to come.
