Boston Bruins: Bruce Cassidy should give stars a break
By Sam Minton
Bruce Cassidy is preparing to rest some Boston Bruins players as the season comes to an end and that’s the correct decision.
This season has been amazing for the Boston Bruins. The team is leading the Eastern Conference and has looked unstoppable at some points.
With the Bruins possessing such a lead in the Eastern Conference and being legit contenders for the Stanley Cup they need to start thinking about the future.

Some guys on Boston’s roster are on the older side. Zdeno Chara and Patrice Bergeron come to mind immediately. If you want these guys to play well in the playoffs they need to recharge their batteries.
That’s why I’m glad to see that Bruce Cassidy is already making plans to let certain players rest and not overwork his team.
"“The Bergys, the Zs,” Cassidy said, citing players like veterans Patrice Bergeron and Zdeno Chara as a few who could fit that bill, per The Boston Globe’s Kevin Paul Dupont.“And (Charlie) McAvoy’s played a lot of minutes, so maybe he needs a day off down the road,” Cassidy said."
We have seen plenty of times how worn down Chara can get during a season. Once he gets to playoffs he looks slower than molasses and can’t keep up with forwards. Also, Bergeron seems to deal with injuries every season so he can always use the rest.
It is also a good sign to see that Cassidy wants to give players like Charlie McAvoy, David Krejci, and Brad Marchand a rest as well. These players need to be fresh heading into the season and Krejci and McAvoy have dealt with some injuries as well these past few seasons.
One player to keep an eye on is David Pastrnak. He is having a phenomenal and possibly record-breaking season but if he plays terribly in the playoffs that won’t matter. That’s why as much as it may pain Pasts he needs to rest.
So I’m glad to see Bruce Cassidy planning for the future because it looks like this could be the year that the Stanley Cup finds its way back to Boston.
