Tom Brady announced he won’t be coming back to the New England Patriots and the franchise will never be the same.

I woke up and check my phone as I normally do. I never could have guessed what I saw. Tom Brady is leaving the New England Patriots.

Wow. There is no other word to describe the news.

More from Chowder and Champions

You can separate people’s lives into two parts. One where Tom Brady was on the Patriots and one where he was not. The sports world is forever changed.

Tom Brady was the face of the New England Patriots. He helped lead the Patriots out of the bottom of the AFC and now he is gone.

There was the writing on the wall. Signs pointed to Brady leaving the Patriots, but I (like many others) just believed he would come back.

Brady is still the greatest quarterback of all-time you can’t take that away from him. He won six Super Bowls and rose to the occasion when New England needed him. Brady also won 3 MVP’s and went the Pro Bowl 14 times.

Now the Patriots future is a giant question mark. Who will be under center? Will it be Jarret Stidham? Teddy Bridgewater? Jimmy Garoppolo? Or will New England draft a new QB?

No matter who is under center the pressure will be immense. It’s an impossible task to take over for Tom Brady. If we thought there was a hole in the offense when Rob Gronkowski, imagine it now that Brady is gone.

When it comes to the Patriots we will see who the true fans are. I have watched Tom Brady and the Patriots dominate my entire life. Now is the tough part. The Patriots will not be the dominant team they were in prior seasons.

So we will see who goes wherever Brady goes and who stays with the Patriots.

But there is one thing Patriots nation should do, be thankful. If there are any Tom Brady jersey burning I will lose my mind.

So thanks for the memories Tom.
