It seemed like Jake DeBrusk wanted to get paid but now that viewpoint has changed and it appears more likely that he stays with the Boston Bruins.

The Boston Bruins have some important decisions to make. They have some important players that need to get new deals.

Boston already got one deal done as they signed Anders Bjork to a three-year extension. This is a great deal for the B’s especially because of the rather low cost.

But Boston still has some work to do. They need to figure out whether they will be able to bring back Torey Krug and Jake DeBrusk. A Krug deal isn’t looking so hot but in recent days things are looking more positive on the DeBrusk front.

At one point it seemed like DeBrusk was leaning towards eventually leaving. His agent said that he wasn’t interested in taking a hometown discount.

But a global pandemic can change things. Now DeBrusk seems to realize how much he loves playing the game as well as playing in Boston.

"I think the quarantine break before now has really changed my mindset on everything and that includes [my contract]. I’m just happy to be here and happy to be here playing. It’s just great to be here. Obviously, it would be way better if he we had home-ice advantage all through the playoffs. But I want to be a big game player. I think anybody would say that. You want to score clutch goals and come up big in timely moments. It could be a blocked shot. Everybody wants to look at stats and production, but for me it’s about if I’m playing well. That’s what I’m focused on with [the contract].”"

If DeBrusk ends up staying in Boston, it would make the Bruins future even brighter. He would solidify the second line with David Krejci centering and Jack Studnicka looking like he earned himself a permanent spot in the NHL.

So far DeBrusk has done everything that has been asked of him. He has proven to be a quality top-six winger. In his career DeBrusk has 62 goals and 58 assists.

Seeing DeBrusk leave would be disappointing. He has sown so much promise and has grown since the start of beginning of his career.

The Bruins do have an advantage though. DeBrusk is a restricted free agent so it’s hard to imagine him finding a suitor.

If the Bruins want to keep DeBrusk and Krug they will likely need DeBrusk to take a pay cut. Krug is deserving of a rather big payday. Boston needs to lock him up. Losing a player like Krug would be a brutal blow.

Krug is such a weapon on the power play. He basically is the on-ice QB for the first unit. Also, Krug has so much skill in the offensive zone in general. Boston might have plenty of defensemen in the pipeline, but there is no one who can replace Krug.

So it will be interesting to see what happens, but it looks more and more likely that DeBrusk will be staying with the Bruins.
