Colin Kaepernick hasn’t played in the NFL for a long time, but the quarterback could help out the New England Patriots.

The New England Patriots don’t exactly need another quarterback but there is one reason that they should be intrigued by Colin Kaepernick.

Now let me get this out of the way, I’m not saying that Tom Brady is on the hot seat. Kaepernick wouldn’t replace Tom Brady.

I think that Kaepernick could serve as a great back up. He is someone who could prepare the New England Patriots defense to face off against quarterbacks like Lamar Jackson and Deshaun Watson.

If Kaepernick did come to New England he would be committing to being a backup. He is 32 years old and Tom Brady isn’t retiring anytime soon.

The one benefit of coming to New England is that he would have a chance to win a Super Bowl. Kaepernick made it to the big game but lost to the Baltimore Ravens in 2013. Kaepernick would also get a chance to help Jarrett Stidham grow as a quarterback.

There is no doubt that Kaepernick will have a spot in NFL history whether he plays another game or not. On the field he helped popularize the read option and showed the legitimacy of mobile quarterbacks. He led the 49ers all the way to the Super Bowl.

Off the field, Kaepernick boldly protested police brutality. A move that some believe is the main reason he hasn’t been signed by a team.

Kaepernick will be having a workout for NFL teams on Saturday. The NFL actually reached out to the quarterback about the idea.

This seems like it will be Kaepernick’s last chance at earning an NFL job. His time is running out. But with the amount of teams that need a quarterback it would be surprising if Kaepernick wasn’t signed by a team.
