Marcus Morris is no longer on the Boston Celtics but he talked about why the team had problems inside the locker room.

We all know that the Boston Celtics locker room was a mess last season. It was quite possibly the worst it has ever been.

The Celtics are known for playing team basketball and lifting each other up. They didn’t do that last season.

More from Chowder and Champions

Players were being selfish and it looked like a ton of ego’s were clashing against one another. It truly was a wasted season.

Now that he is no longer on the team, Marcus Morris can speak freely about his time in Boston. Morris thinks that things will be much different on the New York Knicks.

"“The teams are different. We don’t have that one guy where it’s like, okay, he’s first,” Morris said. “It’s a team thing. No knock on Ky, but obviously he’s a superstar, he’s first. Sometimes his emotions were put in front of the team. I think here, we’re all transparent with each other. We can all go up to each other and be honest with each other. That’s the biggest thing, when you can go out and speak to your brother.”"

Morris does make an interesting point. It was clear that Kyrie Irving was going to be the No. 1 guy on the team. I think we can all agree that did more harm than good.

Even though Morris didn’t want to knock Kyrie I will. If Irving wants to win a championship he needs to become a better team player.

Irving isn’t ready to be a leader. He needs someone who is on his level to check him when he acts out. Jaylen Brown is a well-respected player, but he isn’t on Irving’s level yet.

This is why the Celtics might even have a better season this year. They seem to have a good group of more team-oriented guys. Kemba Walker is a clear No.1 player but he himself said he hopes to see his usage rate go down.

The 2019-20 season could be career years for guys like Jaylen Brown and Jayson Tatum. It is their time to show that they can be top players in the NBA. Especially Brown who could be primed to make a lot of money if he has a career year.

dark. Next. Get excited for Carsen Edwards

So the Boston Celtics definitely had their problems last season, but don’t expect these issues that Marcus Morris described to carry over to the 2019-20 season.
