Boston Celtics: Kevin Garnett clowns Kyrie Irving
By Sam Minton
Kevin Garnett gave his thoughts on the short-lived Kyrie Irving era in Boston and his response showed why the Boston Celtics are one of the greatest franchises in all of sports.
The Boston Celtics have had some superstars go through the organization. Some have succeeded while others have failed.
Kevin Garnett was definitely a successful acquisition. He helped the Celtics win their 17th championship and was beloved by fans.

On the opposite side of the spectrum is Kyrie Irving. The team did better when he wasn’t playing and he didn’t win a championship.
Now that Kyrie has technically made his return to Boston and he got to speak his mind some people are weighing in on his time in Boston.
Kevin Garnett wasn’t surprised that Irving left Boston and spoke about how you have to be a certain type of player to succeed in Boston.
"“No,” he said flatly, before implying that Irving, the Nets point guard, didn’t have the mental makeup for Beantown.“Boston’s a tough town, dawg. You have to have some major cojones to be there,” Garnett said. “You got to want that. The people want it for you. That’s why Paul (Pierce) is perfect for it. Paul wants the shot every time. Like, ‘You’re 0-for-14.’ And he’s like, ‘I know, but they WANT it.’”"
I think Celtics fans can agree that Irving didn’t have the ‘cojones.’ He was never focused on the success of the team. He just wanted to help himself.
Garnett became a part of the city. He gave everything he had for the team and their fans. He was everything you wanted in a star player.
That’s also why I love this year’s team. There are so many players to root for.
Marcus Smart deserves a ‘c’ on his jersey, Kemba Walker is the star that the Celtics needed, Jayson Tatum is dominating, and Jaylen Brown is a shooting machine.
Then there are other fun players like Grant Williams, Enes Kanter, and Carsen Edwards. I’m even interested in Boston’s G-League team cause of Tacko Fall.
So Kevin Garnett was right about Kyrie Irving. He just didn’t have what it takes to play for the Boston Celtics. It’s a good thing that he is no longer on the team
