New England Patriots rumors: Team needs to get Jadeveon Clowney
By Sam Minton
With the New England Patriots losing players left and right they should use their cap space to acquire Jadeveon Clowney.
The New England Patriots already lost a ton of players in the offseason. There was a mass exodus of players and they weren’t no names either.
The Patriots lost some key pieces of their defense and of course Tom Brady. 2020 was a year for rebuilding in New England.

Then Tuesday happened.
Patriots fans saw six players announce that they are opting out of the 2020 season. Once again these were important players. Dont’a Hightower, Marcus Cannon, and Patrick Chung were apart of the group that decided to not play this year.
This leaves the Patriots with a ton of cap space (over $24 million to be exact). For a team that was cash strapped this is a major change.
New England’s defense will be a major factor in the success of the Patriots in 2020. The Patriots will have a new starting quarterback no matter if Cam Newton or Jarrett Stidham is under center.
Especially if Stidham is starting the defense will have to be on point. They would be the one winning games.
So it’s clear that the Patriots need to make some moves to mitigate the losses they just suffered. One obvious move seems to be signing Jadeveon Clowney.
Clowney is a great pass rusher. In 2017 he had 9.5 sacks and 59 tackles. There is no doubt that he could help out New England’s defense.
Now that New England has the cap space there is a real chance that they bring Clowney onto the roster. If they need to breakout the checkbook they are able to.
If Clowney was able to join the roster, they would have a stacked defensive line. Clowney would join Chase Winovich, Deatrich Wise, Lawrence Guy, and John Simon.
This would help take the pressure of the linebackers and secondary. Ja’Whaun Bentley is going to have to step up after the loss of Hightower and Stephon Gilmore will have to perform at an All-Pro level once again.
So hopefully before the regular season starts,Clowney and the Patriots are able to work out a deal.
